Lattice structures replace solid material with a network of struts or surfaces — honeycombs, gyroids, foams — engineered to carry load while using a fraction of the mass. They can be tuned for stiffness, energy absorption, heat exchange or breathability, and they are almost exclusively a product of additive manufacturing, since no mould or cutter can reach inside them.
